Ricoh Adopts ShadowProtect as PC Backup Tool for
“LAN Folder 2” Service Package

Asgent, Inc. (President & CEO: Takahiro Sugimoto, located in Nihonbashi, Chuo-ku, Tokyo), a pioneer in network security and operations management solutions, announces that the image backup software “ShadowProtect” has been adopted by Ricoh Co., Ltd. (President & CEO: Shiro Kondo, located in Ginza, Chuo-ku, Tokyo) as a backup tool for the service package “LAN Folder 2”, with sales starting on September 29.

“ShadowProtect” is an image-based backup software solution that creates a backup of the entire system, including the OS, applications, data etc. By backing up the entire system with OS included, it is possible to recover an entire system quickly and reliably simply in case of hardware or system failure. This in turn allows companies to reduce operational downtime and mitigate business impact.

“LAN Folder 2” from Ricoh is a service package covering the integration of a NAS-based shared file environment and maintenance, providing a “one stop” service for NAS deployment, configuration and support. As part of the service package, an engineer from Ricoh Technosystems, an IT service provider and a 100% subsidiary of Ricoh, will visit the customer site and perform the deployment; including installing and configuring the NAS, configuring the client PC network settings and instructing the customer in how the package is used. The service also covers troubleshooting and system recovery assistance in case of hardware or system failure.

This service package enables small to medium businesses, who often do not possess a specialist system administrator, to share and protect large files, improve operational efficiency and reduce the risk of data loss.

“ShadowProtect Desktop Edition” was selected by Ricoh for the PC backup option in this service. With this option, it is possible to easily backup client PCs to the NAS unit, and perform system recovery in case of failure. The start of sales for the “PC Backup Option” is November 1, 2010.

ShadowProtect is an image-based backup software solution that creates a backup of the entire system, including the OS, applications, data etc. The image backup engine transfers and saves disk data in the original bit-string format rather than as individual files, so it is possible to recover a system quickly and reliably simply by restoring the disk to its original state. It is also possible to restore a system to different hardware models as well as from a physical server to a virtual server (VMware, Microsoft Virtual PC etc.) Some product functionality is not provided in “LAN Folder 2”.
