Asgent Awarded Commendation for Work on Industrial Standardization from METI Industrial Science and Technology Policy and Environment Bureau Director-General

Akihiko Komase, Asgent, Inc. Consulting Department manager and Security Center Fellow, was awarded the “Industrial Science and Technology Policy and Environment Bureau Director-General’s Commendation (Industrial Standardization Merit Award)” at the “Industrial Standardization Awards” held at the Toshi Center Hotel (Chiyoda-ku, Tokyo) on October 15th.

【About the Industrial Standardization Awards】

These awards recognize those individuals and organizations that have made extraordinary efforts to the creation and promotion of international and Japan Industrial Standards. Held each October, awards are given to those individuals or organizations that have worked to accelerate the promotion and spread of industrial standardization while furthering the development of Japans economy and industry and improving the lives of the Japanese people.

The “Industrial Science and Technology Policy and Environment Bureau Director-General’s Commendation” comprises the “International Standardization Contribution Award”, “International Standardization Encouragement Award” and the “Industrial Standardization Merit Award”. The Industrial Standardization Merit Award is primarily given to corporations, groups, organizations and university staff or researchers who are recognized as having contributed to the development, vitalization, promulgation, education and research on industrial standardization systems and Conformity Assessment Schemes as well as having become role models.

【Award-winning Contributions】

A contributing founder of the Information Security Management System (ISMS) Conformity Assessment Scheme, the award also recognizes the significant contribution to the creation of a scheme to enable organizations to implement ISMS effectively, by way of leading the formulation and compilation of the ISMS Users Guide. Also, devotion to promoting and educating organizations regarding ISMS by taking a speaker role at ISMS related seminars for over 10 years from 2001 onwards was another reason for receiving the award.

At Asgent, Akihiko Komase has been engaged in domestic and international activities to promote and popularize security, such as JIPDEC, from 2000 onwards, as part of our social contributions and activities to promote security within Japan. Asgent is also the only recipient of the Industrial Standardization Award for information security this year.

【Asgents approach to security】

Since its inception in 1997, Asgent has worked to promote and increase recognition that security services such as security policy etc. are just as important, if not more so, than security related products and services in order to strengthen security. Participation in METI-related committees such as the ISMS Conformity Assessment Scheme Steering Committee and the BCMS (Business Continuity Management System) Preparatory Committee are an example of the type of activity in which Asgent is involved.

In addition, over the past few years, Asgent has been putting a lot of effort into Managed Security Services (MSS) to protect organizations’ networks from ever more complex and sophisticated cyber-attacks. In cooperation with Mr. Komase, the Security Center Fellow, a team of security analysts analyze and develop measures to counteract security incidents to provide a high quality enterprise level security service.

With a background in encryption to protect confidential information, authentication system design and development, currently working on network security technology and consulting. As a Security Center Fellow, he is directly involved with security incident analysis and countermeasure development in Asgents Managed Security Service Center.

Also, as an expert in information security, IT service management, business continuity management, risk management etc. Mr. Komase is involved with steering committees for JIPDEC and BCI Japan, working groups and formulation of standards and guidelines.
