Asgent, Inc. (JASDAQ: 4288, President & CEO: Takahiro Sugimoto, located in Chuo-ku, Tokyo), a pioneer in network security and operations management solutions, announces that Karamba Security (CEO & Co-founder: Ami Dotan, located in Israel), developer of Autonomous security products "Carwall" and "IoTwall" and which Asgent announces start of sales in November 2016, performed a joint demonstration with FEV*1 (located in Germany) at CES (Las Vegas, Jan. 5 - 8, 2017) on protecting autonomous vehicles from hacking.
Also, Karamba Security will be showing at "Automotive World" to be held at Tokyo Big Sight from January 18th.

"Connected Cars" perform external data connections over the internet, which is an issue from a security standpoint. IDS etc. are often considered as security measures for these vehicles. However, according to Dr. Andre Weimerskirch*2, an industry expert in the field of vehicle electrical systems and cybersecurity, "these defensive systems deploy heuristic methods, and will not be used in vehicles in the near future". Since there will always be some false alarms and if that were to trigger an active prevention, it might have an impact to safety relevant systems, without any ongoing attack.

To resolve these issues, Karamba Security has developed the "Carwall" and "IoTwall" security solutions. "Carwall" and "IoTwall" are autonomous IoT security solutions that prevent cyber-attacks without making changes to the IoT hardware or software. By implementing security configuration into the Electronic Control Unit (ECU) itself during the IoT device manufacturing process, it is possible to avoid false positives that are common in other security solutions.

[Main Features of Carwall, IoTwall]

  • Negligible performance impact on the ECU and necessary resources
  • No false positives
  • Real-time "zero-day attack protection"
  • Strong autonomous security based on ECU factory settings
    - Automatic configuration of security policy in manufacturing stage to handle high level attacks such as in-memory hacks

Karamba Security transferred from initial investment stage stealth mode to product phase in 2016, and as a result of the superiority of the product concept, has been the focus of attention from automotive and related peripheral makers, OS providers and IoT device makers. The company has had eight companies perform PoC in the space of three quarters, and has inquiries from many companies.

Karamba Security and Asgent will be showing at the "9th Automotive World" and presenting on January 18 in the Israel Pavilion. Business meeting sessions are also available (pre-registration required)..
