Karamba Security and eSOL, in cooperation with Asgent, Demonstrate at ESEC 2017 How to Stop Automotive and Medical IoT Hacks

(JASDAQ: 4288)

Asgent, Inc. (JASDAQ: 4288, President & CEO: Takahiro Sugimoto, located in Chuo-ku, Tokyo), a pioneer in network security and operations management solutions, announces that Karamba Security Ltd. (CEO & Co-founder: Ami Dotan, located in Israel), the developer of autonomous security products Carwall and IoTwall, and which Asgent has been distributing since November 2016, and eSOL (President: Katsutoshi Hasegawa, located in Tokyo) will perform a demonstration on May 10th at the Embedded Systems Expo & Conference (eSOL booth, West 10-1) to show how autonomous vehicles and medical IoT devices can be protected from hacking.

Karamba Security´s autonomous security products Carwall and IoTwall are security solutions to protect connected cars and IoT devices from cyber-attacks. Security settings are placed on the Electronic Control Unit (ECU) during the manufacturing phase of the IoT device, allowing for attacks to be prevented without signature updates. After moving from stealth mode to product delivery phase in 2016, the company has had 12 POCs in one year, with inquiries from many companies.

On the other hand, the eSOL eT-Kernel is a Real-Time OS (RTOS) for embedded systems that require real-time capabilities and reliability. It is used in many fields, such as automobile mounted devices, industrial machinery, satellites and consumer appliances. eT-Kernel has been certified for ISO 26262 Automotive Safety Integrity Level D (ASIL D) and IEC 61508 Safety Integrity Level 4 (SIL 4). In addition, the development processes for eSOL´s RTOS products have been certified as complying with the IEC 62304:2006 (medical device software ? software life cycle processes).

The demonstration will show how the Karamba autonomous security solution can be applied to ECUs where eT-Kernel is running on an eT-Kernel platform to provide protection against hacking with zero false positives. Also, the ECU used in the demonstration will include a buffer overflow vulnerability, showing how in-memory attacks can be used against both systems with and without protections in place.

"With Karamba´s software embedded as part of eSOL´s eT-Kernel RTOS-based platform´s architecture infection from malware is prevented, while allowing only good code to run," explained Bob N. Ueyama, Executive Vice President of eSOL. "This shows we can block external threats, preventing hacks to self-driving cars´ braking and steering systems and other critical safety functions. It will also deter remote attacks to medical IoT devices, including MRI scanners, X-Ray machines and insulin pumps," he added.

"We are delighted to enhance Karamba´s partnerships in Japan with eSOL," said Ami Dotan, CEO of Karamba Security. "Karamba has been seeing strong demand from Japanese automotive companies and the ability to serve their needs with a hardened version of eT-Kernel, will enable the industry to continue protecting cars and ECUs, without the risk of false positives."

"Asgent, as the distributor of Karamba, is excited to have the opportunity to demonstrate in-memory protection, which only Karamba can practically provide today," said Takahiro Sugimoto, Asgent CEO and president.
