Asgent Connected Car Security Partner, Karamba, Expands Autonomous Cyber Security Technology to Industry 4.0 and IoT Smart Devices

May 21, 2019
Asgent, Inc.
(JASDAQ: 4288)

Asgent, Inc. (JASDAQ: 4288, President & CEO: Takahiro Sugimoto, located in Chuo-ku, Tokyo), a pioneer in network security, announces that its connected car security partner Karamba Security (CEO & Co-founder: Ami Dotan, located in Israel) has made the announcement that it will develop out its proprietary autonomous cyber security technology to not only the automotive industry, but also to connected devices in various fields such as Industry 4.0 and IoT smart devices.
Also, in Japan, demands for strengthening security for IoT devices are increasing, with the Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications making a public appeal for comments on the “Guidelines Regarding Standardized Authentication of Terminal Equipment Based on Telecommunications Business Act (Version 1)” (Proposal) in March in order to add security measures to the technical standard for terminal equipment including IoT devices.

[Karamba’s Embedded Security Technology]
Karamba’s embedded self-protecting and self-recovery software technology strengthens ECU security. Attempted changes to the ECU are detected, and any behavior that does not fall within ECU behavioral patterns is blocked, providing state of the art security functionality. Karamba already has over 32 engagements with OEM and Tier-1 providers in the automotive industry. Karamba’s technology is gaining attention in other markets as well, with connected systems manufacturers of enterprise edge devices and Industry 4.0 controllers etc. considering adopting Karamba’s runtime integrity software to strengthen their connected devices.

[Expansion into Connected Device Markets]
As more edge devices in cars, factories, homes and enterprises are being connected to the internet, attacks on connected devices create chaos in day to day life, and put business at risk. Connected system providers face the need to provide secure devices in order to protect their customers from brand damage, liability risks, and revenue loss due to large scale cyber-attacks.
Karamba CEO and Co-founder Ami Dotan made the following comment. “These attacks have a potential to disable transportation fleets, disrupt national power grids or use in-home surveillance cameras to violate privacy. Connected systems providers are working harder than ever to ensure that their products are safe and secure. Embedding Karamba’s software into their existing infrastructures offers a new level of protection against hackers trying to exploit connected devices on a grand scale.”
Karamba’s technology strengthens the total connected system automatically, preventing unauthorized changes to the factory settings. Embedded security functions are constantly activated, ensuring runtime software integrity and preventing attackers from taking over the connected system. Therefore, it is possible to provide a product to developers, providers, manufacturers and vendors that self-protects against cyber-attacks.
Industry analysis firm VDC Research Director Steve Hoffenberg says, “Connectivity increases the number of potential attack vectors, and hackers have dramatically improved their attack skills. Device makers need to up their defensive game in response, enabling devices to protect themselves without imposing onerous restraints on legitimate users.”

[Partnership with Wind River]
In conjunction with this market expansion, Karamba announced a partnership with Wind River, a provider of real-time operating systems (RTOS) for embedded systems. This will help automotive, aerospace, defense, industry, medical and network providers to automatically embed self-protection security in their connected devices. Both companies will utilize their successful collaboration in the automotive industry to expand their embedded run integrity approach into the connected systems market.
Wind River Product VP Michel Genard made the following comment. “Karamba’s focus on protecting the runtime and software integrity in critical applications makes them a natural Wind River partner for the products we provide. Cybersecurity is increasingly becoming a top priority across critical infrastructure where embedded protections against cyber-attacks is a must have. Together with Karamba, we are contributing to the evolution of connected devices and systems with a preventative solution against advanced attacks.”

[Asgent’s Approach]
Based on this announcement from Karamba, Asgent will promote the technology to manufacturing and IoT device makers in addition to the traditional automotive industry. Also, Asgent will exhibit the Karamba solution at Interop Tokyo 2019, to be held from June 12 at Makuhari Messe.

Interop Tokyo 2019
Period: June 12 〜 14, 2019
Venue: Makuhari Messe

Booth No.: 6M09 (Hall 6)

[Karamba]
Karamba provides industry-leading embedded cybersecurity solutions for connected systems. Product manufacturers in automotive, Industry 4.0, IoT and enterprise edge rely on Karamba’s automated runtime integrity software to self-protect their products against Remote Code Execution (RCE) cyber-attacks with negligible performance impact. After 32 successful engagements in automotive and other industries, product providers trust Karamba’s award-winning solutions to increase their brand competitiveness and protect their own customers against cyber threats.
