Karamba Revamps Autonomous Security Solution to Support IoT and Smart Devices, New Product to Lineup

June 6, 2019
Asgent, Inc.
(JASDAQ: 4288)

Asgent, Inc. (JASDAQ: 4288, President & CEO: Takahiro Sugimoto, located in Chuo-ku, Tokyo), a pioneer in network security, announces that Karamba Security (CEO & Co-founder: Ami Dotan, located in Israel) has revamped its autonomous security solution product lineup with the IoT and Smart Device product fields in mind. Also, two new products for the IoT and Smart Device markets have been added to the product lineup.

[Karamba´s Embedded Security Technology]
Karamba has been on the forefront of providing solutions such as "Carwall", which product state-of-the-art security functionality by detecting modifications to ECUs with zero false positives and prevents any illegitimate behavior on the ECU, "SafeCAN" that performs CAN authentication, and "ThreatHive" to provide threat information. Karamba already has over 32 engagements with OEMs and Tier-1 automotive suppliers. Also currently Karamba´s technology is being closed watched by other industries, with manufacturers of connected systems for healthcare, enterprise edge devices and Industry 4.0 controllers considering adopting Karamba´s runtime integrity software to strengthen the security of their connected devices. With this in mind, Karamba announces strengthened support for the IoT and Smart Device markets on May 14, 2019 (May 21 in Japan).

[Brand Name Change and Addition of New Products]
The Karamba autonomous security solution brand name has been revamped as XGuard Suite, with increased sales activities in new fields. At the same time, the characteristic functionality of "Carwall" is being released as a new product to support IoT operating systems. These are "XGuard CFI", which utilizes the Control Flow Integrity functionality (technology to insert code into the program to verify function call addresses and return addresses) and "XGuard Whitelisting", an application whitelisting function. In particular, while other CFI products only check the integrity of the function call, "XGuard CFI" also checks the function return address. Because of this feature, it is an effective solution for CPU vulnerabilities such as Meltdown etc.

The product lineup and details are as follows.

XGuard Integrity (prev. Carwall):
Detects modifications to the ECU and prevents any behavior not legitimate to the ECU.

XGuard CFI (New):
Uses CFI functionality to block in-memory attacks such as buffer overflows and code injection.

XGuard Whitelisting (New):
Only pre-approved files are whitelisted. Prevents dropper attacks (execution of unknown scripts, libraries, binaries) in runtime.

XGuard SafeCAN (prev. SafeCAN):
Authenticates and encrypts ECU communication.

XGuard ThreatHive (prev. ThreatHive):
Early detection platform for ECU vulnerabilities. With honeypots deployed globally, real world cyber-attacks can be identified and tracked.

Asgent will be presenting XGuard at Interop Tokyo 2019 from June 12 at Makuhari Messe.
