Asgent, Inc. (President & CEO: Takahiro (Shuji) Sugimoto, located in Nihonbashi, Chuo-ku, Tokyo), a pioneer in security solutions, announces the conclusion of a distribution agreement with eIQnetworks (CEO: Vijay Basani) to act as master distributor in Japan for “eIQ FirewallAnalyzer”, eIQ’s firewall log analysis product line.

Most companies utilize firewalls to prevent unauthorized access. However, merely installing a firewall does not ensure security, as post-installation operation and management are vital to effective firewall maintenance. Firewall logs contain various types of information, and periodic checks to see if large numbers of packets are being sent from a particular location, or if any user is attempting to access a forbidden port enable system administrators to detect intrusion attempts early on and take preventative actions. Many firewalls have their own log viewers, but most of these only possess search and/or filter functions and cannot output statistical reports, leaving a need for log analysis tools that can.

To that end, Asgent announces that March 2004 will mark the start of sales of “eIQ FirewallAnalyzer”, a log analysis tool that is compatible with most firewalls. Log files are processed instantaneously and reports can be produced showing all types of firewall activity, allowing the user to detect attacks or time-consuming surveillance activities such as “slow port scans”, which scan one port each day. Multiple templates are provided so that reports can be easily created and customized to suit the needs of the user. Also, administrators can use the schedule function to automatically create and distribute reports as well as select which type of reports and firewalls can be viewed by setting user access rights.

“eIQ FirewallAnalyzer” has two editions, the Standard Edition and the Enterprise Edition, the latter of which can analyze virus software logs from products such as McAfee VirusScan and InterScan VirusWall, on top of firewall logs, making it possible to create reports including information on virus sources, etc.

The Standard Edition has no fixed sale price, and the Enterprise Edition is \243,000, making it an affordable option for even those users with low-end firewalls.
