BCI Japan Alliance Provides Latest Information on
Global BCM (Business Continuity Management)

The “BCI Japan Alliance”, consisting of Asgent, Inc. (President and CEO: Takahiro (Shuji) Sugimoto), InterRisk Research Institute and Consulting, Inc. (President: Tadashi Yasuda), SANKI (President: Kiyomitsu Taku), Hewlett Packard Japan (President: Yasuyuki Higuchi), BT Japan (CEO: Koshiro Kitazato), Strohl Systems (CEO: Mr. Myles Strohl; US-based BCM Software Developer) and Severn Group (CEO: Mr. Jon Ward; UK-based Risk Management Consulting Company), have been working globally to spread and raise awareness of “Business Continuity Management (BCM)”, which has gained a lot of attention following the September 11, 2001 terrorist attacks in the United States. Now, with the third anniversary of the attacks approaching and in an effort to further corporate understanding of BCM, the Alliance has decided to launch a newsletter and create a website dedicated to BCM and related issues.

1. BCM Newsletter

   The newsletter will provide interested corporations with the latest BCM-related information from around the world, as well as practical information on establishing BCM in a corporate environment (4 issues/year, free of charge).

   Results from a survey conducted by the BCI (Business Continuity Institute) and CMI (Chartered Management Institute), the largest BCM member organizations in the world (translated into Japanese for the first time).

   • 46% of companies (69% of medium-sized companies) have adopted BCM.
   • Awareness of latent threats such as loss of telecommunications, loss of IP capabilities, fire and loss of business base exists.
   • PAS56 (British Standards Institution), a global indicator of BCM, is recognized by 30% of medium to large companies and 12% use it. (The Japanese Standards Institute publishes a Japanese version of PAS56 as the “BCM Indicator”.)

   The first Japanese website dedicated to BCM related issues and an invaluable resource for corporate risk management officers when researching BCM.
