Asgent Announces the Release of Antispam E-mail Security Appliance PineApp Mail-Secure

Asgent, Inc. (President & CEO: Takahiro Sugimoto, located in Nihonbashi, Chuo-ku, Tokyo), a pioneer in security solutions, today announces the signing of a distribution agreement with PineApp Ltd. (Israel: CEO Ilan Shaya) to sell “Mail-SeCure”, an antispam security appliance.

■ Background

Many companies install antivirus solutions for e-mail security. However, the amount of nuisance e-mail, which includes “spam e-mail” with unwanted advertisements or invitations to adult websites, and “phishing e-mail”, which is used by fraudsters, is growing rapidly. One of the causes of this rapid growth is the proliferation of “bots” (malicious programs that infect PCs). These bots operate infected “zombie” PCs and send large amounts of nuisance e-mails, which can contain malicious programs to infect other PCs and enlarge the bot network. Also, “backscatter attacks” are another problem facing e-mail users. These attacks occur when an e-mail is sent with a spoofed address, which causes an error e-mail to be bounced back to the spoofed address holder.
In order to overcome these problems, it is necessary to utilize a solution that makes use of multiple composite technologies.

“Mail-SeCure” is an e-mail security appliance that performs composite checks on e-mail using 10 antispam filters and 3 antivirus engines. Along with a UTEBD filter to block against phishing e-mail and a Zombie Detection filter to block e-mail sent from zombie PCs, Mail-SeCure provides protection against backscatter attacks, mentioned above. Moreover, RPD technology from Commtouch Software, which is well known for antispam technology and worldwide spam detection centers, enables Mail-SeCure to detect spam in real-time at the earliest stage regardless of the language and e-mail format. Combining these various methods provides protection from nuisance e-mails and creates a better e-mail environment.
Mail-SeCure is also equipped with antivirus engines from F-Secure (Orion, Libra, Kaspersky), Commtouch, and PineApp (proprietary), and can check both incoming and outgoing e-mail with different policy rules applied depending on the direction of the e-mail, which makes it possible for the administrator to manage e-mail in more detail.
