December 13, 2006
Asgent,Inc.
Asgent, Inc. (President & CEO: Takahiro Sugimoto, located in Nihonbashi, Chuo-ku, Tokyo), a pioneer in security solutions, today announces the signing of a distribution agreement with ViaScope Inc. (Korea: CEO Chan-Woo Kim) to sell the IP address management solution “IPScan”.
■ Background
Computer networks are now an essential part of business, and security measures against external factors such as viruses and unauthorized user access are now the bottom line for network security. In addition, the focus on internal security is growing due to various incidents where internal information was leaked. Many companies now forbid employees to bring their own personal PCs into the company because of concerns regarding viruses being brought into the internal network or the employee’s PC being the cause of these internal information leaks. There is also no guarantee that all PCs have the latest OS patches or that antivirus software installed on them has the latest pattern files, so if a large scale information leak was to happen then not only would the company have to bear the responsibility and damages, but there will be also be immeasurable damage to the company’s image.
However, finding unauthorized PCs among the hundreds of PCs in the company and recording and managing all the IP addresses in an Excel ledger are both very cumbersome tasks, and can lead to mismanagement where conflicts occur between IP addresses.
For these reasons, there has been a need for a tool to easily collect and manage information related to all of the connected devices in the network.
“IPScan” automatically collects information regarding all of the IP and MAC addresses in the network automatically and allows the network administrator to block access to unauthorized IP and MAC addresses. Also, the network address ledger is updated in real-time, making it is easy to see which IP addresses are being used and which are not in use. Moreover, by protecting important IP addresses used for routers, file servers and printers, conflicts with PCs or other devices can be avoided, providing a more stable and safe network environment.
“IPScan” can be easily installed by just connecting it to the network, whereupon it will automatically begin collecting IP address information. Also, agent software does not have to been installed on each client, so the network administrator can start managing the network immediately following deployment.
