Asgent, Inc. (President & CEO: Takahiro Sugimoto, located in Nihonbashi, Chuo-ku, Tokyo), a pioneer in security solutions, today announces the signing of a distribution agreement with Orangesoft, Inc. (President: Hirokatsu Hibino, located in Gotanda, Shinagawa-ku, Tokyo) to start sales of the E-mail file attachment encryption product “BRODIAEA safeAttach”.
■ Background
As the importance of e-mail as a business communication tool has increased, so information leaks from misdirected e-mail has also become acknowledged as a real and substantive problem. To counter this, many organizations’ internal regulations specify that when sending e-mail, the “recipient”, “e-mail body” and “attachment” must be checked before sending, but merely creating these rules do not remove the risk of e-mail being sent to the wrong address, or inappropriate body or attachments being sent. Therefore, there is a need to prevent misdirected e-mails and reduce the risk of information leaks on the system side, rather than punishing for human error.
With these needs in mind, Asgent announces the signing of a distribution contract with Orangesoft, and the start of sales of the e-mail attachment encryption product BRODIAEA safeAttach. safeAttach prevents information leaks by automatically encrypting all unprotected -mail attachments, which are said to be the largest cause of information leak incidents via misdirected e-mail communications. There is also no need to install software on each client, as all encryption is performed server-side automatically, meaning there is no need to worry about careless user mistakes such as “forgetting to encrypt” files. The encryption utilizes the ZIP format, so recipients can easily decode files without readily available tools. There are two methods for sending the ZIP decryption password to reduce the risk of the password falling into the hands of the wrong recipient; (1) password is sent to the sender by e-mail, who forwards the password to the recipient or relays the password by phone, and (2) password notification e-mail is automatically sent to the recipient after a pre-specified period of time. Moreover, safeAttach can prevent leakage of e-mail addresses used in bulk e-mail sending. If the number of addresses in the To or Cc fields exceeds a preset number then the e-mail can be blocked before being sent, prevent errors such as including e-mail addresses in To or Cc fields which should only be included in the Bcc field to maintain privacy. The high-range model safeAttach Enterprise includes all of the same functions as safeAttach along with the ability to allow users to download the attachment from a dedicated web server. The download credentials, limit on number of downloads, length of time to display file and other web server-specific settings can be configured, providing flexible and safe e-mail operations.
■ Asgent’s E-mail Security Solution
Asgent has been selling the anti-spam appliance “PineApp Mail-SeCure” exclusively from 2006, and the e-mail attachment encryption product “safeAttach” is the second addition to Asgent’s e-mail security solution. In addition to pure product sales, Asgent is also aggressively promoting onsite maintenance and deployment services, developed with technical knowhow gained from selling and supporting Check Point (UTM-1, VPN-1 etc.) and Nokia (Nokia IP Series) products. Also, Asgent has further plans to expand the e-mail security solution to provide a safer e-mail environment for organizations of all sizes.
