Asgent Announces Leader in Social Engineering Frameworks to Teach “Social Engineering Workshop”

February 27, 2014
Asgent, Inc.
(JASDAQ:4288)

Asgent, Inc. (President & CEO: Takahiro Sugimoto, located in Chuo-ku, Tokyo), a pioneer in network security and operations management solutions, announces that Christopher Hadnagy, the leader in Social Engineering frameworks, will teach a “Social Engineering Workshop”, targeted at risk management, internal audit and security administrators within companies and other organizations.

Targeted attacks were amongst the most talked about security incidents over the last year. The technical aspects of these attacks that involve the utilization of IT technology often attract the most attention, but it is “Social Engineering” that is used as a prelude to these targeted attacks to gather information by manipulating people into performing actions by themselves that they otherwise would not perform. There are many reported cases where the personal and confidential information gathered is in turn used to carry out advanced sophisticated attacks.

Regardless of how superior the security technology may be, it must still be managed by people. Social Engineering is the art of psychologically manipulating people to perform actions desired by the attacker in order to gain information. Spear Phishing, which is one type of targeted attack, is a method of Social Engineering and is an example of an attack that utilizes IT technology. From this viewpoint, it can be said that taking measures to prevent Social Engineering is the first step towards creating an information security beachhead against attacks.

In March 2013, Asgent held a seminar entitled “Evolving Targeted Attacks and the Reality Behind Human Hacking”, headed by Christopher Hadnagy and Kevin Mitnick, leaders in the field of Social Engineering. Amongst the high praise for the seminar from those who attended were calls for specialized Social Engineering training. To meet these demands, Asgent has made the decision to perform workshop-style training.

Christopher Hadnagy, who spoke at the seminar mentioned above, will be the instructor for this training. Christopher Hadnagy is a leader in the Social Engineering field, having created a structured framework for Social Engineering and performing training and user-focused education to help prevent people from becoming victims of Social Engineering-related crime. He has spoken on Social Engineering at famous security conferences such as the RSA Conference, SANS and Black Hat etc. and has a well renowned consulting service performing training and penetration testing overseas.

The objective of this training is to have the participants understand the psychological theory and methodology behind Social Engineering in order to protect their organization from Social Engineering threats.

The “Social Engineering Workshop” will be held on April 22-23, and will cost \300,000 (excl. tax) per participant. There will be a maximum number of 30 participants for this training.
