Macnica Networks and Asgent Announce Collaboration for Selling and Providing Monitoring Services for McAfee Next Generation Firewall

Macnica Networks Corp. (President: Masahiro Miyabukuro, located in Kohoku-ku, Yokohama), specializing in network devices and security solutions, and Asgent, Inc. (President & CEO: Takahiro Sugimoto, located in Chuo-ku, Tokyo), a pioneer in network security and operations management solutions, jointly announce that they will begin collaboration to sell and provide monitoring services for the next generation firewall product “McAfee Next Generation Firewall” that is provided by McAfee Co., Ltd.

Cyber-attacks against public offices and corporations are becoming highly intensified, with the number of attacks methods that evade traditional “firewalls” steadily increasing. For this reason, “McAfee NGFW”, which has a strong reputation in the market and is renowned for protecting against invasion methods using AET (Advanced Evasion Techniques: technology used by an attacker to avoid being detected by network security devices such as firewalls and IPS when performing an APT attack) has a strong track record amongst many corporations, not to mention public government offices and municipalities. On the other hand, in order to discover signs of an attack using 24/7 log monitoring and analysis requires specialized security knowledge and operational resources, resulting in a large outcry for outsourcing monitoring and operations to specialists.

With this background in mind, Macnica Networks and Asgent are proud to announce the start of collaboration for sales, operations and monitoring of the “McAfee NGFW” product. Macnica Networks, the domestic distributor for “McAfee NGFW” products, provides end users with the product itself as well as deployment and technical support backed by specialist knowledge. Asgent will in turn add the “McAfee NGFW” to the device lineup for the “SecurityPlus Managed Security Service” and will provide monitoring services. Also, specialized security analysts in the Security Operation Center (SOC) will monitor and correlatively analyze the various logs produced by the “McAfee NGFW” continuously on a 24/7 basis, and will notify the end user in case a security incident is judged as having a high possibility of being an attack or intrusion. Through this collaboration, “McAfee NGFW” users will be able to receive total support including support for deployment, operations and monitoring, as well as gaining the knowledge of security specialists along with 24/7 operations monitoring without the need to host their own SOC, while still gaining the best performance from the detection capabilities of the “McAfee NGFW”.

Both companies will continue to expand sales of both McAfee products and Managed Security Services to meet the demands of customers faced with ever more advanced cyber-attacks.

【McAfee Next Generation Firewall】

The McAfee Next Generation Firewall is a firewall device with high operational and high availability functionality that has more than 10 years in the market due to its clustering technology, with over 4,000 users in 90 countries worldwide. It can be said to be the firewall most coveted by customers requiring throughput on a large scale or central management for multiple firewalls. Models exist to handle large scale requirements such as clustering for more than three Active machines or providing throughput of maximum 120Gbps (UDP 1512byte) per device. Through this service, Asgent Monitoring Center analysts monitor operations of end users’ security devices 24/7, and in cases where a security incident is discovered, perform correlative analysis and provide details on the event and proposals for necessary security measures to the end user. Security configurations are applied to the monitored devices that take into account the end users environment from a security and performance viewpoint based on hearing sheets completed by the end user. In addition, the end users security situation is periodically diagnosed and a diagnostic report with recommended security measures if provided.
