Asgent Announces it will Provide Monitoring Services to Regional Government Bodies as “My Number” Security Measure

Asgent, Inc. (President & CEO: Takahiro Sugimoto, located in Chuo-ku, Tokyo, JASDAQ: 4288), a pioneer in network security and operations management solutions, announces that it will start providing, from August 26, a monitoring service entitled “SecurityPlus Managed Security Service for Trend Micro My Number Sandbox” (MSS for My Number) for the “Trend Micro My Number Sandbox” solution provided by Trend Micro Incorporated (President & CEO: Eva Chen, located in Shibuya-ku, Tokyo, First Section of the TSE: 4704) with the goal of secure operations of the “My Number” (national identification number) system in regional government bodies.

【Background】

Targeted attacks utilizing malware that is aimed at specific corporations and organizations are on the rise. With plans in place for deployment of the “My Number” system, which will be an integral part of social infrastructure, there is great concern regarding cyber-attacks on central and regional government bodies.

With regards to operation of the “My Number” system, “Implementation of Sandbox Devices” is defined as “Important” by regulatory authorities for shared environments (with intra-agency LAN connectivity) as a security measure when connecting to intermediate servers. Also, in cases of dedicated environments or shared environments (with no intra-agency LAN connectivity), it is still defined as “Recommended”.

Sandbox devices detect suspicious traffic on the network and run any suspicious files that may be found in a protected environment (a ‘sandbox’) to analyze what will happen when the file is run. Activating malware and viruses and analyzing their behavior enables detection of unknown malware, which in turn enables a reduction in the risk associated with targeted attacks that utilize malware.

【Trend Micro My Number Sandbox】

The “Trend Micro My Number Sandbox” provided by Trend Micro is an appliance solution focused on regional government bodies that implements sandbox and behavioral detection functionality, as a product to support the “My Number” system. It detects suspicious traffic on the network and analyzes suspicious files found with behavioral detection on the sandbox.

The device includes a sandbox that supports multi-language OS^※1 including Japanese as well as supporting^※2 Japanese applications such as “Ichitaro” which are often targeted as part of attacks focused on Japan. The solution includes multiple engines to analyze traffic behavior that results from file execution and dropped files, and provides a sandbox that detects threats with high analysis capabilities that doesn’t rely on pattern files. 【SecurityPlus Managed Security Service for Trend Micro ‘My Number’ Sandbox】

The “SecurityPlus^※3 Managed Security Service” provided by Asgent is a specialized service that provides 24/7 operation monitoring of customers’ security devices by monitoring center analysts, correlative analysis and proposal of necessary security measures should a security incident be discovered. Security settings are applied to monitored devices taking into consideration the customers’ environment from a security and performance viewpoint, based on hearing sheets. In addition, the customers’ security situation is periodically diagnosed and a diagnostic report with recommended security measures is provided.

At this time, Asgent will begin providing “MSS for My Number” for monitoring the “Trend Micro My Number Sandbox”. This will enable organizations such as regional government bodies to get the most of the capabilities of the “Trend Micro My Number Sandbox” as well as gain the “security specialist’s insight” that only Asgent can provide.
