Asgent Announces File Sanitization Solution for E-mail Attachments, Aimed at Regional Public Offices and Educational Institutions

Asgent, Inc. (President & CEO: Takahiro Sugimoto, located in Chuo-ku, Tokyo, JASDAQ: 4288), a pioneer in network security and operations management solutions, announces the start of sales of a Public Package, aimed at regional public offices and educational institutions, for “Secure Data Sanitization” (SDS) that sanitizes E-mail attachments.

The threat of targeted attacks has become more prevalent over the past few years, and there is no end in sight to damage caused by malware incorporated into E-mail attachments, such as the security incident with the Japan Pension Service in June. Looking forward, it can be expected that these threats will increase even more with the start of the “My Number” national identification card system and the Tokyo Olympics in 2020. In the midst of this, government offices and industry groups are being called on to increase their security, not just by blocking abnormal traffic but also by sanitizing E-mail, which is a new methodology gaining a lot of attention.

On the other hand, Asgent is currently selling the SDS solution from Votiro, an Israeli company, and feels that this is a good fit as an E-mail attachment sanitization solution. SDS places importance on the ‘possibility’ that a file could contain malware and sanitizes all files that enter the organization from the outside via E-mail attachment etc. In general, exploits (scripts or programs designed to make attacks utilizing vulnerabilities) and malware hide in the metadata and empty bit space within files, which data SDS checks, deletes data sections not necessary for the file to open or run and sanitizes by overwriting other parts of the file with meaningless information. In overseas markets, SDS is used primarily by government organizations, power plants, aerospace industry and financial institutions that have extremely high security requirements.

Asgent will begin sales of the SDS Public Package aimed at regional public offices and educational institutions that are in particular need of security measures. The package itself includes the SDS file sanitization program and 5 years of maintenance, and pricing starts at \7,982,000 for 500 users of the E-mail sanitization solution.
