Asgent’s Connected Car Security Partner Karamba Introduces State-of-the-Art Technology Focusing on Establishing Industry Growth and Protection from Cyber-Attacks as Security Integration Gains Attention in the Automotive Industry

Asgent, Inc.
(JASDAQ: 4288)

Asgent, Inc. (JASDAQ: 4288, President & CEO: Takahiro Sugimoto, located in Chuo-ku, Tokyo), a pioneer in providing network security, announces that its connected car security partner Karamba Security (CEO & Co-founder: Ami Dotan, located in Israel) spoke on the future of mobility at the Japan-Israel Innovation Summit 2018 〜Future Mobility〜 (*1) event held on November 27th at the Akasaka Intercity Conference Center as one of a select group of 8 Israel-based automotive experts.

[Japan-Israel Innovation Summit 2018]
The summit was a one day summit for invited experts from Japan and abroad to discuss the future vision of mobility. It was held with the objectives of deepening ties between Israel and Japan, promoting innovation and contributing to Japanese industry, and success stories from Israel companies leading the automotive market were introduced.
In his speech, Karamba Co-founder and Chairman David Barzilai spoke about state-of-the-art cyber-security, with a focus on methods to protect from cyber-attacks while maintaining growth in the automotive industry. "Autonomous vehicles with connected functionality are the transformation of mobility, and will change our very lives. However, with the rise in danger of cyber-attacks, the effect of new technological revolutions will be impaired. With overall total security and reliability, consumers will not put their trust in autonomous vehicles. Karamba provides the highest level of cyber-security solution in the industry for using autonomous vehicles safely."

[Hacking Challenge]
With a mind to contribute to the automotive cyber-security industry in Japan, Karamba is performing various types of activities. In the beginning of the year, Karamba held a hacking challenge (*2) at DEFCON in Las Vegas, presenting high level problems using ECUs. Based on the success of this event, a hackathon was held at the cyber-security international conference CODE BLUE (*3), and with Asgents cooperation, high level problems were again presented using ECUs. This hackathon fused security research abilities and security protection technology to not only increase knowledge about actual automotive hacking, but also with the objective of developing the next generation of engineers in Japan in the automotive industry, which is seeing a move to smart mobility. Over ten teams attempted to hack the intra-vehicle network (IVN) using CAN protocols in an environment designed to resemble an actual intra-vehicle network.

[Future Developments]
Karamba and Asgent will continue to perform awareness raising activities and provide solutions in collaboration in the Japan automotive industry. A demo is planned for Automotive World in January 2019 where visitors will be able to experience hacking using a microcar.
