Targeted Email Attack Solution “Active! Zone” Integrates with Sanitization Solution “VOTIRO Disarmer” From Spring 2021

  QUALITIA CO., LTD (CEO: Ken Matsuda, located in Chuo-ku, Tokyo) announces the integration of its targeted email attack solution “Active! Zone” with “VOTIRO Disarmer” (Developer: Votiro, Inc.), a sanitization solution distributed by Asgent, Inc. (JASDAQ: 4288, President & CEO: Takahiro Sugimoto, located in Chuo-ku, Tokyo) to become available from Spring 2021.

“Active! zone”, a solution against targeted email attack which is used by attackers to get into the network, has various sanitization features such as harmful/malicious content removal from email attachments, conversion of HTML emails to plain text, URL string sanitization, and protection against spam and viruses from emails. “VOTIRO Disarmer” distributed by Asgent is a file sanitization solution that sanitizes any file that comes in by placing importance on the possibility that any file could contain malwares.

Starting this spring, “Active! zone” will integrate with “VOTIRO Disarmer”. With this integration, “Active! zone” will not only be able to remove the macros that run on Microsoft Offices files (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) or PDF files, but also sanitize any files that are supported regardless of whether they are malicious or not, utilizing the CDR (Content Disarm and Reconstruction) technology provided by “VOTIRO Disarmer”. Password protected files can be sanitized by VOTIRO after extracting the files using the attachment separation feature of “Active! zone”, before users download the files. This integration will provide protection against zero-day attacks with unknown signatures, and will also free the users from pattern updates and false positives.

By sanitizing all the files brought in from external sources, financial institutions and regional public entities that require network segregation will be able to “deconstruct the files, reconstruct them after removing the potentially harmful elements, and return the files to their original form” as stipulated by the Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications, and prevent data breaches by skillful targeted email attacks.

[About “Active! zone”]
  “Active! zone” is a targeted email attack solution developed domestically to provide a better environment for customers using any type of email. “Active! zone” was first developed in 2016 as a solution to strongly support the sanitization of attachments which was one of the information security measures the Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communication recommended to the regional public entities, and more features were added in 2017 for the enterprise customers. Detailed rules can be defined to filter the emails to be sanitized for each sanitization method, and furthermore, different type of sanitization can be conducted on the same email depending on the recipients. By combining the existing features and the “Sandbox Option”, password protected zip files can also be detected. “Active! zone” protects the customers’ email environment, and free them from the fear against unknown threats. This is a solution that clears up the ambiguity around sanitization, reduce complexity with a user-friendly interface, and gives reassurance with a support team based in Japan that acts promptly.

  Votiro Disarmer places importance on the possibility that a file could contain malware, and sanitizes all sorts of files that enter from external sources. Various file types including Office, Ichitaro, PDF, CAD etc. are supported, and particularly regarding the Japanese language word processor software "Ichitaro", made in Japan, that is widely used by many organizations, thanks to cooperation on the part of the developer Just Systems, Votiro Disarmer was the first to support this file type.
